Mobile Upcoming: Mobile TV & Mobile Radio from BSNL

1 November 2007 No Comment

bsnl.jpgBSNL has launched a Mobile TV service called ‘Tiny TV’ by tying up with an UK-based mobile applications developer ROK Entertainment Group. Initially Six channels will be offered in the service and the channels includes EMN (English Music Channel ), Geet (Hindi music), Bindaas (Hindi), Zoom (Hindi), a live Hindi news channel and a regional channel of ETV depending upon the Zone.  technologies allow streaming videos to mobiles at up to 14 frames per second over GPRS and up to 24 frames per second over 3G and Wi-Fi. Subscribers need to pay Rs. 150 to avail the service.

BSNL has also launched a Mobile Radio service to its subscribers. For a monthly rental of Rs. 25 and a usage charge of Rs.1/min, subscribers can tune to their favorite music by dialling 1255533. BSNL claims this service as the cheapest among the available, as rest of the service providers charge Rs. 5 per minute.

Bottomline: Mobile TV is an attractive move, even though available channels are not very popular. I really doubt about the success of Mobile Radio in an era where users can store and hear hundreds of songs for free even using a cheapest mobile.
