Shatabdi trains will now have a TV
Indian railways which faces a heavy competition and loses a huge market share of business travelers to the low cost airlinesĀ is working on attractive plans which would help them to retain the business travelers. Railways has already started the initiatives of offering internet services on selected trains.
Now they are working on the feasibility of installing Flat panel touch screen television channels on Shatabdi trains. Passengers can watch live as well as recorded entertainment and movie channels while travelling.
According to Business standard , media and entertainment giants like Adlabs and Dish TV are very much keen on getting the contract. The license will be for five years and railway ministry expects a price of 2.31 crores for the first year.
Providing such services in trains will be a big plus for Indian railways and definitely the move will be much profitable as they are not going to invest anything but are going to get huge amount from the media companies from the Tender. For media companies, it is yet another opportunity to reach huge audience and can generate revenue thro’ advertising
Bottomline: Win-Win situation for both Railways, Media companies (& Passengers)
