Wordpress Plugin: Moving from Wordpress to Movable type/Typepad

25 September 2007 2 Comments

Rarely Wordpress users tends to move away from this user friendly, convenient, fast growing blogging platform. But sometimes they have to pick this option of moving out to other platforms like Movable type and Typepad for business needs or personal desires. Migrating from Wordpress to Movable type is really a tedious process as no official plugins/ guidelines are available with Movable type. Today i came across this interesting and an easiest hack, a wordpress plugin (technically, we should call it as a theme), which needs only simple five step process.

Migrating from Wordpress to Movable type:

  1. Download this plugin and extract the zip in your machine
  2. Upload the extracted contents to your wordpress theme folder (under wp-content/themes)
  3. Go to Wordpress admin panel -> Presentation tab and elect the “Export for Movable Type/TypePad 1.0″ theme
  4. Goto your wordpress homepage and save the contents in a local file (Remember to avoid character encoding issues, save it as UTF-8 encoding if asked)
  5. Upload the file to your movable type theme folder

Thats done.

You can follow the same procedure for migrating to typepad. But recently, Typepad has introduced the feature of importing from wordpress in its blogging platform itself, you can use the same.
